Add a system

Create a system

Systems are located under Configuration → Systems in the building.

1. Click New System.

2. Fill in:

   • Code (optional): for example, =360.001. The equals sign is optional; the code is saved the same way regardless.

   • Name and Category, for example, Air Handling or Heating.

   • Optional: location, manufacturer, year of installation, operational description, and maintenance.

3. Click Save.

The system automatically creates a separate folder under Documents in FDV.

Create a system from a template

A template creates devices, interfaces, data points, logging, alarms, and, if applicable, a view for a known facility, already connected to a new system.

1. Go to Systems and click New System.

2. Select the template in Template (optional). The discipline, manufacturer, operational description, and maintenance information are populated from the template, and you can edit them.

3. Enter the Code and Name.

4. Select Gateway.

5. For each device: enter the Device Name and IP address.

6. For each interface: enter the Unit ID (Modbus) or Device ID (BACnet).

7. Check the Create View box if the template has a view and you want to include it.

8. Click Create.

Data points and alarms will have the system code prefixed to their names, for example, “=360.001-Supply Air Temperature.” Without a code, the device name is used. This allows you to have multiple identical systems in the same building.

Suggest Systems

If you have created data points without a system, the “Systems” button will display “Suggest systems.” Evolo identifies TFM codes in the names of devices and data points, such as “360.001 Ventilation,” “=360.001-RT401,” and retrieves the discipline from the code (36 stands for air handling).

1. Click “Suggest Systems.”

2. Review the suggestions. Devices without a code are suggested as separate systems but are not selected.

3. Click Create. The data points are linked to the systems, and you can change the names and disciplines afterward.

Export and Import Systems

Export downloads the systems as an Excel spreadsheet. Use it as a starting point to enter multiple systems at once, and upload it using Import:

• Evolo The system is recognized by its Code, or by its Name if the Code field is empty.

• The system already exists: the row updates the fields. A template in the row is ignored.

• New system with a template: Select a template in the Template column. Units, data points, and alarms are created from the template. Enter the IP address and Unit ID / Device ID, and select a gateway when importing.

• New system without a template: only the system is created.

Save a system as a template

If you’ve set up a system you want to reuse, save it as a template:

1. Go to Systems and select Save as Template from the context menu for the system.

2. Select New Template and enter the name, manufacturer, and description, or select Update Existing and choose the template to update. The version number will then be incremented by one.

3. If desired, select View based on the template.

4. Click Save.

The system code, unit name, and addresses of the units are removed from the template so it can be used for another building.

The Templates tab displays the templates from all the organizations you are a member of, plus Evolo’s templates. The Organization column shows who the template belongs to.
