How to install Docker Desktop and set up Gateway on Windows

This method allows you to run the Evolo Gateway as a Docker container on Windows.

Requirements

  • Minimum Windows 10 build 19044+

  • The machine must support virtualization and run Docker with Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

  • Note: BACnet Discovery is not supported on Windows, as Docker does not support host mode.

1. Install Docker Desktop

Download for Windows

Follow the instructions in the installation guide to install Docker Desktop.

IMPORTANT! The user installing Docker Desktop must be an administrator.

2. Download and run Evolo Gateway 

Download the docker-compose file for Evolo Gateway

  1. Save the file to the desired folder on your PC.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder.
  3. Hold down Shift, right-click in the folder, and select "Open PowerShell window here."
  4. Type the command: `«docker compose up -d»` and press Enter.
  5. Docker will now download and start Evolo Gateway as a container. The container will restart automatically when the computer restarts (as long as Docker Desktop is running).

Once the installation is complete and Docker is running Evolo Gateway, you can proceed to step 2. Add Evolo Gateway to your top system
