Set Up Ping

Here's how to use the Ping app to monitor devices on your local network. The app can log the status and timestamp of data points, allowing you to track whether a device is responding and, if necessary, set up alerts.

Here's how to do it

  1. Go to Settings and select Apps.

  2. Click Add Application.

  3. Enter a name, a description if desired, and select a gateway.

  4. Enter the IP address of the device you want to monitor.

  5. Select an interval in seconds.

  6. Select a data point for status.

  7. Select the data point for the timestamp.

  8. Click Create.

What the application records

The status data point is set to true (1) or false (0), depending on whether the device responds to the ping.
The timestamp data point receives a Unix timestamp each time the Evolo Gateway receives a ping response.

If you also set up an alert on the status data point, you can receive a notification when the device stops responding.
